How we make money

Hub of Luck is free to use. We earn money when readers sign up with some operators through our links. This page explains how, and what we do to stop it influencing what we write.

Affiliate commission

Some operators pay us a fee or a share of revenue when someone joins through our links. Those links go through an address starting with /go/, are marked as sponsored for search engines, and only work for operators licensed where you are.

How commission affects the order of a list

Our lists are ordered by a ranking that blends our editorial score with how readers respond to each site: how often they click, how many sign up, and the commission we earn per click. The editorial score carries the most weight, and a site scoring under 7.5 can never take a top-three spot. See the full ranking method.

Featured placements

Operators can pay for a Featured placement. It is always labelled, and it never changes a score.

What money cannot buy

  • A higher editorial score, a better verdict or a removed con.
  • A top-three position for a site scoring under 7.5.
  • A listing in a location where the operator is not licensed.
  • Any presence on our safer-gambling pages, which carry no operator links or adverts.
