LuckyLand Slots has closed. VGW stopped Gold Coin sales on 3 August 2026, ended gameplay on 24 August and closed prize redemptions on 14 September, when players lost access to the site, Covers reported. Separately, on 9 September 2026 New York Attorney General Letitia James announced an $8 million settlement with VGW over three of its brands. The two events are linked in the headlines, but the closure was announced first.
What closed and when
| Date (2026) | LuckyLand Slots |
|---|---|
| 3 August | Gold Coin purchases already stopped |
| 24 August | Gameplay ended |
| 14 September | Redemptions closed; site no longer accessible |
Covers reported that LuckyLand had been available in 44 states and that balances could not be moved to other VGW brands. VGW said the closure would not affect Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Casino or Global Poker.
What the New York settlement says
The Attorney General's release covers Chumba Casino (offered in New York since 2012), Global Poker (2016) and LuckyLand Slots (2018).
- Payment: $8 million for disgorgement, penalties and costs. According to the OpenClassActions summary of the agreement, it is paid to the State of New York and none goes directly to players.
- Finding: VGW described Sweeps Coins as free, but the investigation found players could buy them at about one coin per dollar, much like casino chips.
- Law: New York bars online gambling that involves risking something of value. Governor Hochul signed a formal ban on sweepstakes casinos in December 2025.
- History: The office sent VGW a cease-and-desist letter in June 2025, after which coin sales to New Yorkers stopped.
A summary of the agreement by OpenClassActions says it lets eligible New Yorkers ask VGW to redeem Sweeps Coins until 31 August 2027. The agreement itself is linked from the Attorney General's release; the redemption detail here is as reported.

Questions people ask
Can New Yorkers still cash out Chumba or LuckyLand Sweeps Coins?
Possibly. A summary of the settlement by OpenClassActions says New York residents who did not receive VGW's 2025 phase-out notice can ask VGW to redeem Sweeps Coins held on 2 June 2025, until 31 August 2027. Gold Coins are not covered. As of 10 October 2026 no request form had been published, so contact VGW support in writing and keep a copy.
Did VGW admit wrongdoing in the New York settlement?
No. According to the OpenClassActions summary of the agreement, VGW neither admitted nor denied the Attorney General's findings, and the agreement is not an admission of liability. The Attorney General's press release itself describes the platforms as illegal under New York law, which bars online gambling that involves risking something of value.
Can I move my LuckyLand coins to Chumba Casino?
No. Covers reported that coins in LuckyLand Slots accounts could not be transferred to other VGW brands. Players had to use or redeem their balances before gameplay ended on 24 August 2026 and redemptions closed on 14 September 2026. If you missed those dates, contact VGW support in writing with your account details and balance.
Will other states follow New York?
Several already have. Covers lists Indiana and Maine among the states that banned sweepstakes casinos in 2026, and other states are weighing similar bills. Each state acts on its own timetable, so check the current position where you live before you buy coin packages at any sweepstakes site.
