NetEnt is one of the oldest online slot studios still making games. Its catalogue still includes Gonzo's Quest from 2010 and Starburst from 2012. Since 2020 it has been part of Evolution, the live casino group.

NetEnt at a glance

Started 1996 (NetEnt; Evolution)
Owner Evolution AB (took control in 2020)
Listing None of its own. Its parent, Evolution, is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm
Malta Evolution Gaming Malta Limited, named on NetEnt's site, MGA licence MGA/CRP/187/2010 (MGA register)
Other licences Held at group level; see Evolution's licence list

A short history

NetEnt was listed on Nasdaq Stockholm before the takeover. In 2019 it bought the slot studio Red Tiger. In 2020 Evolution made an offer for NetEnt, and by December 2020 it held about 96.8% of the shares. SBC News reported at the time that NetEnt had applied to leave the stock exchange and that its live casino business was being closed.

What NetEnt makes

NetEnt makes online video slots, including progressive jackpot slots. Evolution's 2025 annual report says NetEnt "played a big role in shaping today's online video slots". It also says NetEnt updated its brand during 2025.

Notable games

  • Starburst (2012). A five-reel, 10-line slot. When the Starburst wild lands, it expands to cover its reel and gives a respin. NetEnt lists a 23% hit frequency and a top win of 800x the bet. (game page)
  • Gonzo's Quest (2010). Uses Avalanche instead of spinning reels: winning symbols disappear and new ones fall in. Each win in a row raises the multiplier, up to 5x in the base game and 15x in the Free Fall bonus round. (game page)
  • Dead or Alive 2. NetEnt rates it high volatility. The bonus round lets you choose one of three versions (Old Saloon, High Noon Saloon and Train Heist), each with a different use of sticky wilds or multipliers. (game page)
  • Mega Fortune. A progressive jackpot slot with three progressive jackpots: two local and one global. A separate wheel bonus ends in either a jackpot or a fixed coin prize. (game page)
  • Divine Fortune. A jackpot slot with Falling Wilds that move down the reel and give respins. A jackpot bonus game can award one of three jackpots, Minor, Major or Mega. The Mega jackpot is the progressive one. (game page)

Progressive jackpots are funded by a small part of every stake, and the top prize is very unlikely on any single spin. Our RTP and volatility guide explains how that affects returns.

RTP versions

NetEnt's game pages each show a single RTP, such as 96.08% for Starburst and 95.97% for Gonzo's Quest. NetEnt's pages and FAQ do not say whether operators can choose other versions. The figure at your casino is the one in the game's help screen, so check it there.

Where NetEnt's games appear

Evolution went live in Ontario on the first day of the regulated market, 4 April 2022, with NetEnt among its brands (press release). See Ontario casinos.

NetEnt games are supplied under Evolution group licences. Evolution's licence list does not break those licences down by brand. For Great Britain and other markets, check the game lobby at a licensed casino from our UK casinos or casino markets pages.

NetEnt's sister studios are Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City. For a comparable independent studio, see Play'n GO. All studios are listed on our providers page.
