Online gambling in California: what is legal

California has no legal online gambling for real money. Online casino games, online poker and sports betting are not legal; voters rejected online sports betting in 2022 and no measure qualified for the 2026 ballot. The California Lottery sells only through retailers and treats courier apps as illegal. Online sweepstakes casinos have been banned since 1 January 2026 under AB 831, signed in October 2025.
